What is EB-5 Program?
The EB-5 Program is an excellent way for you and your immediate family members to obtain green cards to have the freedom to live, work and study anywhere in the United States. This program was created by the U.S. congress in 1990 to encourage foreign investment and economic growth by providing a method to eligible foreign investors and their families to receive permanent resident status, the so-called green cards, by investing $800,000 to $1,050,000 in a business in the United States that will create at least ten qualified jobs per investor. Most of the EB-5 investors invest in a Targeted Employment Area (TEA) , a rural area or area with high employment, or an Infrastructure Project which qualifies for the lower investment threshold of $800,000. The investors have the choice of investing individually or pooling their investment with others and investing in a project sponsored by a USCIS designated EB-5 Regional Center.
Advantages of investing through an EB-5 Regional Center
By investing through an EB-5 Regional Center, investors participate with others in a pool of funds. The investment is managed by the Regional Center. Advantages of investing through a Regional Center over individual investment are:
- no business acumen is required from the investor;
- no need to participate in daily business operations;
- freedom to live anywhere in the U.S without being limited to the project location;
- job creation does not solely rely on direct hiring but benefits from indirect job creation as well using approved economic models;
- coordinated immigration process in conjunction with the investment;
- most of the Regional Centers’ projects are located in TEAs which qualify for the lower investment amount.
