American United EB-5 Regional Center (AURC) is a USCIS-approved EB-5 Regional Center. Here at AURC, we are proud to be the first EB-5 Regional Center approved in the state of Oregon. Additionally, in 2013 and 2015 we received approvals from USCIS to expand our regional center operations to the states of Washington and California respectively. Portland Development Commission
Previously in partnership with the Portland Development Commission (PDC), the economic and development arm of the City of Portland, Oregon, AURC continues to develop EB-5 projects in Portland with a focus on job creation, innovation and creating economic opportunity for the local community. With the principles of “pragmatism, sagacity, sincerity and stability,” AURC’s management team has successfully built a stable and profitable multinational investment organization that presents a bold image in the industry. AURC has the skills of an entrepreneurial investment management team and the resources required to identify the best investment opportunities which create risk-controlled and profitable projects. Jim J. M. Li – Managing Director
Mr. Li is a co-founder and executive managing member of American United Development Group, LLC, AURC’s operating company incorporated in California for the purposes of foreign investment management under the EB-5 program. Mr. Li has over 30 years of diversified business management experience gained in the United States, Canada and China in the fields of education, project development, corporate administration, business consulting and capital investment. Previously, he was the Chief Operating Officer of a Vancouver-based immigration and education consulting firm with over 30 branches worldwide, including the US, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Mainland China. Mr. Li founded and served as the managing partner of Raydwell Consulting Inc., an active Canadian business consulting firm specializing in SME business operations and cross-cultural marketing strategies between China and North America. Additionally, Mr. Li was the General Manager of Northern Minerals Investment Corp., a Vancouver-based investment firm in natural resources. Arriving to North America in 1988, Mr. Li graduated from Cleveland State University with a Master in Business Administration.
Marvin Kau – Vice President of Project Development
Mr. Kau is Vice President of Project Development for AURC.In this capacity, Mr. Kau is responsible for identifying and structuring projects that fit both the EB-5 program and AURC’s investment goals. He is also responsible for overseeing project and business marketing, public relations, investor relations, governmental relations, construction management efforts and compliance with USCIS and SEC regulations.
Prior to joining AURC, Mr. Kau was the Vice President of Brokerage and Managing Principal Broker for one of the top 5 commercial brokerage firms in Portland Oregon. In this position, Mr. Kau directed activities for 24 commercial brokers in the sales and leasing of all commercial property types and assisted with negotiations and deal structuring on hundreds of real estate transactions.
Mr. Kau also managed the construction and development accounting function for a national developer of affordable housing projects, developing 38 projects totaling 4,370 housing units at a cost of $384 million. Acting as partner in a local redevelopment group, Mr. Kau also oversaw the redevelopment of residential and small commercial properties valued in the tens of millions of dollars. Prior to his entrance into real estate, Mr. Kau worked for over 10 years in corporate accounting and finance with major financial institutions.
Mr. Kau is a native Oregonian and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Portland State University.
Randal L. Berry – Director of Business Development
Dr. Berry is the Director of Business Development, responsible for project development and marketing of projects suitably structured to satisfy EB5 designation under the USCIS’s guidelines of partnership and investment. Dr. Berry brings with him over 25 years of diversified international business and education management experience, serving throughout the United States, Canada and China. His specialization has been in the fields of International Management Strategy in private sector business and private / public education in positions of management, administration and consulting,
Prior to joining AURC, Dr. Berry was the Senior Business and Finance Strategist with WSIC, Ltd., China and SIS, Inc., US, International Business Investment Consulting Groups in Guangzhou, PRC and San Francisco, US and an Adjunct Professor of International Management at Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, NH.
During his career, Dr. Berry has worked in the fields of Strategic Business and Finance Management, Education Management; Investment Strategy and Management, Finance and Business Strategy Consulting, EB5 Program Project Consulting, Management and Development, and Construction Management in the US, China and Canada.
Dr. Berry holds an MBA from NYIT, Manhattan, NY, and a DBA from Walden University, MN in the areas of Global and International Business Management and Administration.
Timothy Knowles – Legal Counsel
Timothy Knowles is the principal of TD Knowles & Associates and AURC’s immigration counsel. Mr. Knowles is an experienced international businessman, financier and immigration consultant. A graduate of Yale University (B.A. History, 1976), and the Yale School of Management (M.B.A. Finance, 1982), Knowles’ rich and varied experience includes national-level commercial lending, merchant and investment banking, securities sales, asset management and service as a public university Vice President, as well as over 15 years in international business in the Asia-Pacific arena, and 12 years as a highly successful international immigration consultant. A cum laude graduate of the Gonzaga University School of Law (J.D., 2008, winner of the Linden Cup), Knowles is a member of the Washington Bar Association, American Bar Association and American Immigration Lawyers Association.
